Phil Laure Biography

 

Mr. Laure has over twenty five years of strong and comprehensive experience as an Industrial Engineer, Lean Manager and Quality Manager in a variety of manufacturing businesses ranging from high-speed commercial to aerospace manufacturing. He continually uses his background in process improvement and team building skills to facilitate office and production floor process improvement teams. Within this capability, Mr. Laure has successfully led over fifty Kaizen process improvement team events, thirty of those being conducted within various Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers to the Automotive industry.

 

Mr. Laure served his country in the United States Air Force with a Top Secret security clearance, and was an Intelligence Analyst while on active duty, as well as a Communications Officer in the reserves. Mr. Laure has an extensive background as an educator. He is certified to teach Business Focused Teams through Competitive Solutions, Inc. in Atlanta, GA. He has developed and taught numerous classes throughout his illustrious career. This includes several team training classes in Business Focused Teams during his employment at Luxfer Gas Cylinders in Riverside, CA, as well as Team Building training for the staff at Safetran Systems in Rancho Cucamonga. Additionally, Mr. Laure developed and instructed an Internal Auditing course for Safetran, which has been completed by Internal Auditors from multiple facilities.

 

Mr. Laure has been an instructor of Manufacturing Principles for Mt. San Jacinto Junior College and is currently teaching Lean Principles at the University of California, Riverside. Mr. Laure holds numerous Quality Credentials including being a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, a Certified Manager of Quality / Operational Excellence and a Certified Quality Auditor through the American Society for Quality (ASQ). He is an active participant with the Inland Empire Section of the ASQ and is currently serving as Nominating Committee Chair and Quality Management Plan Chair. Mr. Laure also holds membership in the American Productivity and Inventory Control Society and the Society for Manufacturing Engineers.

Eileen Hewitt Biography

 

Ms. Eileen Hewitt joined QMI in April 1998.  She is an RAB Quality Systems ISO 9001 lead auditor, a QuEst certified TL9000 Telecommunications lead auditor and a lead auditor for ISO 13485:2003 medical devices.  She has served as a Lead Auditor since 1993 and has performed more than 1000 quality systems audits.  She has had the opportunity to audit a variety of manufacturing firms ranging from low to high technology, small to large companies and Fortune 500  organizations.

 

Ms. Hewitt is qualified in 20 different SIC codes ranging from plastics molding, rubber products, food products, medical devices, and telecommunications.  She concurrently provides training to individuals and businesses seeking ISO 9000 or telecommunications training for a registrar. 

 

Ms. Hewitt has had a successful career working in the quality assurance field before beginning her auditing profession.  This real world experience gives her excellent insight to internal corporate operations.

 

Ms. Hewitt is a graduate of the University of Redlands, California with a BS in Business Administration plus minors in both math and science disciplines.  She is proud to have received the TORO Circle of Excellence award and to have been nominated as a Woman of Achievement.

William Kinney Biography

 

William (Bill) Kinney is an independent quality assurance professional who brings over 40 years of practical experience in aerospace manufacturing and service quality assurance to his courses.  Bill has an MBA from the University of La Verne with emphases in Supply Chain Management and International Business.  His Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management (Quality Technology) is also from the University of La Verne.  His was a certified Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Instructor, where he developed and taught courses in DOD and NASA QA principles to US and international students.  Bill developed and delivered aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul related courses while working at the Boeing Company.    Bill’s industry education includes AS9100 and ISO 9000 Lead Assessor, Department of Defense Acquisition Professional Level III, US Air Force Air Command and Staff College and numerous DLA commodity certifications.  In a non technical area, Bill has had credentials for teaching grades K-12 with the Rim of the World school district and was certified by the Red Cross and the American Heart Association as a CPR/First Aid Instructor.

Bill most recently was a quality manager with Kellogg, Brown and Root, providing his quality audit and process improvement expertise to the provision of life support services to US military and civilians in Iraq.  Prior to that, he worked for the Boeing Company as a supplier quality representative and California Region focal for maintenance, repair and overhaul supplier certification and surveillance.  Bill is retired from federal government service after 38 years  in October 2004 where he was a Lead Auditor with Defense Contract Management Agency’s internal review group.  While with the DOD, he garnered extensive experience in quality working with NATO and other international quality systems. He was instrumental in developing the DOD approach to evaluating foreign government quality systems in preparation for negotiation of international agreements.  During two assignments in Europe, he served as Advisor to the European Plant Manager at a jet engine manufacture and overhaul facility in Belgium;  Leader of a contract management team in Germany; and Host Nation Contract Administration Coordinator for the European theater.  Bill has been involved with multiple aerospace programs including the Space Transportation System, Minuteman, Peacekeeper, Delta, and various launch and reentry programs while working at Vandenberg AFB in California.   Bill served six years with the US Air Force as a civil engineer and electronics technician and had two tours in Vietnam. 

Throughout his professional career and through volunteer efforts, Bill has learned the value of equipping the individual for success in order to help the organization reach its goals.  This belief has carried over to Bill’s teaching approach where he is committed to student development and understanding.  It is not about passing the course; it is about gaining the knowledge and skills.

Bill has been recognized by his organizations and peers throughout his career for his outstanding contribution to mission success.  His awards include: Civilian Meritorious Service Medal and Civilian Commendation Medal from the DOD, Distinguished Graduate from US Army Logistics Management Center; selection to the DOD Defense Acquisition Corps; selection twice to the Air Force Logistics Executive Cadre and selected by Boeing as the California Region employee of the quarter in 2009.

 Bill is a senior member of the American Society for Quality, has been a Chairman and Events Chair for ASQC section 0601 and is recognized by ASQ as a Certified Quality Engineer and Certified Quality Auditor.  Bill has also been a member of the Society of Logistics Engineers.
